Hi Jack --

No, it is not possible. 46” diameter works out to about  12 feet of run 
per circle of track (presuming that you are also limiting  the whole helix 
to 
48” x 48”) whereas to gain the requisite 4” between  levels will take 16 
feet 
at approximately 2%. Now if you stretch the helix  into an oval, you can 
see that you can do it in 48 x 72”. I used 4”  between levels which gives 
you approximately one inch for benchwork to  support the track, but 
practically no clearance for the trains.

Would anyone know if it is  possible to design a working helix that has a 
track diameter of 46 inches,  would fit on 48 inch table, rise 15 inches at 
2 
percent  grade?
