The day started with SW-1 #22 switching The Humongous Company, pulling empty
grain cars from the elevator track and putting them on the Old Pass. Next, RS=1
#33 brought a string of CB&Q grain loads over and shoved them down the Main
Line, and took the empty grain cars back over to the yard.
After that, #22 reached in on the Power House track and grabbed two empty
hopper cars that were billed out, shoved them back on the lead and took them
through the Old Pass and tied them to the end of an outbound train being made
up in Mooar Yard. Returning to The Humongous Company, it went against the CB&Q
grain loads and pulled them and spotted them at the elevator. #33 pulled an
empty tank car from the Fueler and tied it to the head end of the train, then
grabbed the caboose from the scale and went to the other end of the yard and
tied it on the now made up outbound train.
Next, the focus switched to Terminal District, where GP9 #42 was sorting cars
in the North Yard storage tracks. After digging out some cars for the Eastbound
freight train, it then lined up some cars for the KUD interchange run. The
hostler turned passenger engine #12 on the turntable and spotted it on the
Passenger Outbound. #42 commenced to turn the RPO and the baggage-combine and
make up the outbound passenger train, after which #12 came off the outbound and
tied on, completing the outbound passenger train.
Earlier in the week, I installed a remote throttle jack for the Stapleton
throttle, and now have full fledged momentum operation, wherein I can start a
train, unplug the throttle and move to another jack while the train continues
to run. I find, however, the momentum feature makes precision operation a
little tedious, and local switching si still better with one of the other
throttles, a good hint for when the Mt. Zion Dispatcher Panel is operational
and road trains have work at Mt. Zion or Bonaparte. I can run into town with
the Stapleton (Throttle #5), then do the local work with one of the other
throttles, then return to #5 to continue. Sounds like A Plan - I'll let you
know how it works.
I've done some more wheel cleaning work on engines. Someone mentioned using
cotton swabs for this work, and I'm finding it works well. At this time, the
passenger trains have run, and there are two freight trins ready to go, one at
Mooar Yard, the other at Terminal District. Also at Mooar, there is an
interchange connection ready to go to KUD. Seems like there is no end to the
work on the railroad - on top of that, The Humongous Compaany is about ready
for another switch.
