Ben,
The ties are in and if you are coming with the big EMD power, the upper route
will be completed to allow you to pull the 24 coal gons. I will even add 70 or
80 ore cars if you want a little challenge.
I did get some work done on the Heartland this weekend, I put in some facial
where I had made a benchwork change. I need some wood filler and some paint to
finish it but the dirty work is done. I reinstalled a blue point on the
turnout into Powdermilk Milling allowing me to move three boxcars that had been
stranded at the mill. I found that the spur track itself had not been laid
quite correctly and subject to some errant operation. The crew got in there
and pulled a foot of the offending section and that will be finished quickly.
The track crew will then go on to laying track over the new bridge over the
Rumansoda River in preparation for the break in run on the SD-70's.
I also started work again on my SMMW H-10-44, it is such a neat little engine
and I want to get it into service and have a second kit so I can double head
them... that is a silly sort of idea.
Reference slow speed gearing on older AM diesels, I have done it and would say
it adds some noise. I would not recommend doing it for that reason however if
you want to try it, I will send you a set of the drive shaft with the worms,
ready to drop in.
