Hi GUys,
I have to say that promoting the hobby is easy. I have a 13 yr old daughter
here and a 20 yr old daughter here that just came to the US legally and are so
excited to build a train layout. My 13 yr old is very interested in my American
Flyer, but she loves the N-Scale size. So yesterday we started her first
layout. She can't wait to make mountains and paint buildings. She has chosen
the Union Pacific to model because she love the Yellow Paint scheme.
So I have decided to run with it and bought her UP passenger cars and now am
looking for an engine for her.
My 20 yr old loves the accesories and size of the O-scale trains. So again I
will run with it for her starting woth the trains. I already have.
Fortunately, my wife loves the S-Scale size like I do. In fact, she made me
purchase the new AF Texas Special set. She is so excited about getting the
layout running for me again. She says she wants to do all the scenery work for
me which I think is great because I am not thrilled with all the little detail
stuff.
We are planning on taking our family act on the road to local shows
eventually. It is just to easy to promote this hobby because there are so many
different aspects.
The one thing that got my girls interested was the sounds and smoke of the
Texas Special set. Also they love the smoke and choo choo sound of my 336.
Granted some of this is not scale related but it is a start and can eventually
lead them into the world of scale trains and all the details.
I know with scale trains it is so easy to get bogged down about details. But
if everyone who plays with trains would just remember that it is a hobby to
enjoy and relax with, then it really does become easy to promote.
Many times in our lives it seems easier to find fault in something like all
the electronics , but it is much more fun to learn amd enjoy what we learn
which is why all the clubs and groups on line are so important to our wonderful
hobby.
Sorry for rambling, I'm just excited to be back into my hobby again after 6
years of being out of it.
 Enjoy! Chris Burger(cbtrainnut)
