In case you did not hear John Bortz’s PV &W layout is no more. It is
unfortunate that we could not have a last visit to see the layout before
dismantling. I have not been there is about 15+ years – certainly before I
got a digital camera. Anything that was salable went off in an auction this
past Saturday. John is still alive and doing OK. It was just time to move on
from S Modeling.

I went to the auction. It was a once in a lifetime day for sure. That is
where the cars I am selling came from. BTW, I still have a few left for
sale. http://www.lanestrains.com/Cars_for_sale.htm There are already some
items for sale on eBay from another buyer. No one could possibly buy most of
it. The amount of stuff for sale can only be measured in real shear tonnage.
As you would expect that was a lot of Old School kits and assembled cars.

I did not get what I was hoping to buy like assembled buildings. I know
there was not a lot in scenery completed on the layout. There surprisingly
was not a Overland M53. The ore boat and dock sold for only $75.00. I had no
room for it. Buying it to resell was out of the question for me because it
would not survive any attempts at shipping. The S Helper Service cars of
which there were MANY mostly sold for new full retail price or MORE. The
turntable and roundhouse and some other items was actually purchased by
John’s son. If ¼ of what was sold actually hits eBay, and I think it will,
it will be a wallet drain for many months to come.

Of the cars I bought I am keeping 4 of them. I have wanted a Drovers caboose
since I was 13 and first saw it in S Gauge Herald. ***It is such an odd
car.*** I have been told mine was built by Frank Titman for his first
layout. There is some portion of a A F baggage car (I think) hidden in the
car someplace. That is what I see when I turn it upside down. There is NO
chance I would buy a kit and assemble it myself so I jumped all over it to
win. I did some TLC to it by taking off the truck mounted couplers. I
repainted the roof. I also am keeping 3) 50’ all wood boxcars that are
single, door & ½ and double door cars. They different and would stand out on
most S layouts. I have to do some TLC on them as well mostly by adding
weight to them.

Thank You,
Bill Lane
