Bill, two things. It was once said that the Rock Island lost money on
every car load, but they made it up in volume!
Second, remember what happens to minnows, they get gobbled up by whales!
Three years ago, I purchased the tree making device, and the materials
to feed it. I had a need to replace and add to, my pine forest. I also
said, if somebody needs less than 50 such trees for their layout he's
probably wise to purchase them rather than buy all that stuff,
especially if he wants a 'better' tree. I've had a few sales developed
from local shows and a display in a local hobby shop, so now the machine
is paid for and my forest is looking better. Unfortunately most people
buy the ready made, 5 trees to the pack, Chinese stuff, so my new RR
engine isn't going to happen.

For every Y3 and SD70 release there are 10x + super special items made
that you would never see otherwise. Many or most "cottage" items are
made with little profit or unfortunately sold at a loss. There is NO
fun in the effort of producing something new and having the privilege
of PAYING for it so other can have some too. The driving force is the
person that lives in the cottage wants ___ bad enough to actually make
it and still endure the loss of doing it.
The best part of it all is when the cottage dweller is urged multiple
times to make something they have NO interest in making, and the
"urging person" does NOT buy any when the item is made available!
That's is an eye opening hoot right there.....
There are many more "minnows" than "whales" that make a school more
complete and a much happier place to swim.
Thank You,
