I'm not familiar with the MC4 but I have done several installations using the 
TCS T4X and T6X decoders - mainly in steam locomotives like the 2-6-6-2 and my 
H10 2-8-2.  I've had zero problems and been quite pleased.   Both those 
decoders accepted the TCS VR1.5-H voltage regulator - it plugged right into the 
decoder.   The regulator really helped simplify wiring and operation of 
auxiliary lighting such as classification, cab and number board lights.
