Have faced the same challenge last year when upgrading a large set of 1:64 
diecasts.
Bought several 1:72 sets, and among them, best fit was the CMK military 
figures. They are not cheap (approx. USD 15 for 4 to 5 figures), but they look 
really good, and need very limited customization (especially given that the 
arms are separeted parts and can be set in any position (incl. driving wheel).
