With all due respect, scales like On3 and G have not passed 1/64 trains. Once
again we treat our scale as apples (AF) and oranges (fine scale) while ignoring
the vast middle ground of highrail. Looking at the extremes does not help our
cause a bit. At York, granted that it is mostly tinplate collecting
represented, S was a strong second place to O and there was very little HO and
N present. There were literally hundreds of AF and highrail folks there. These
were the people that the smart marketing folks from MTH and Lionel were there
to please, not a handful of fine scalers. And dealers like Doug Peck are always
present for good reason.

As some have mentioned here, they are gradually moving towards a more scalelike
approach to their layouts. If they stop somewhere short of the fine scale
standards espoused on this list, is that such a big crime? Those non-AF
publications would make out a lot better if they also included quality highrail
layouts. I remain optimistic about our future because S is truly the best
all-around scale and more and more people are going to become aware of it
because of MTH and Lionel and ultimately we will ALL benefit from that. For
goodness sake, lets be all on the same page for once.
