When I was asking about flue sheets and exhaust pipes soldered to the boiler
weight someone stated that the RDG 2-8-0 also had them. I checked mine and the
only thing in the boiler, all the way up to the smokebox front, is a large lead
cylinder. Could the original weight with the detail have been replaced? Mine
came from the John Bortz estate auctioned by Maurer, and he had changed the
locomotive/tender connection (I didn't see the point and restored the stock
drawbar connection), so it is possible this is not the original boiler weight,
although it looks like a commercial product.
