I have use with success rail brown from Floquil in the past but concerns about
spraying solvent base paint without ventilation in the layout room and the
house led me to find an alternative. The local hobby shop told me many
customers were using Poly S dirt color. So I gave it a try, diluted with
distilled water and was pleased with the result. For those who saw the S scale
workshop modules in Scranton could see the result on the ā€œUā€ modules.

Hi Ed;

Rail brown, Floquil Rust is too bright. It looks like new rust, not rust that
darkens over time.

As an alternative, Lance Mindheim recommends Rustoleum Brown Camouflage paint
in rattle cans for painting track. In either case, be sure to have ventilation
and a respirator!

Hi,

I'm trying to decide between rail brown and rust in choosing the correct color
for mainline rail. Thoughts? Opinions? I'm not in position to physically check
real mainline rail.
