Bill, as I look at your picture, I think that what you have is a "hot spot" or rather in this case a "hot line" of light: the row of lights. The light needs to be diffused to be less directional. I would try placing a reflective surface under the lights that would re-direct all that great light out to the sides creating more of a "bright sky" approach. Use your imagination for a mock-up to see if this idea even works. Then if you want something to create intentional directional shadow, you can install the random spotlight, either permanent or temp for photos.
