Bill,

Actually that date isn’t too bad for southeastern Pennsylvania, which is where
the train ride will happen. The “peak foliage time” varies throughout the
state. By then there will be areas in the state with mostly bear trees, but
not in the area the train is traveling. In my area, it’s usually mid- October
or a little later, but the southeastern part is later.

Was the sumac that was turning, along the roads. I had noticed they were
spraying around that time along the roads and it usually turns it fall color
before it turns completely brown.

In my case, I just need to look out my back windows or drive around my normal
every day route for fall foliage.

HI Bill --

Very interesting from the railfan point of view, but if I remember correctly,
the leaves are pretty much down by that date... While Sandie and I were
traveling around Pennsylvania after the convention we saw a lot of foliage
that was already starting to turn, sumac especially.

Who would have thought that Amtrak would schedule a “for fun” excursion train?
This trip is really pretty good.

Most (or all?) is on PRR trackage as well. Check out the route! I don’t count
“rare mileage” miles but this trip has them for sure.

I already have my tickets for Donna and I….looking forward to it.

Thank You,
