About six months ago I bought about 50 link-coupler "hold-togethers" from Dave Garrigues (he designed them) that do a great job of mitigating link couplers that like to open at inopportune times. I think they cost me about $5, postage included (about $0.10 each). They are ultra-thin black plastic and can't be noticed unless you look very carefully and know what to look for. Can't be seen when the train is moving. They come in a strip and you cut them apart with scissors. Work GREAT!
Contact me through email if you have any interest. I can give you his address. I guess he still has them -- I can check.
