Dear John, Good day! Here is the Guru's step by step: "To accomplish this, you can take a pair of medium duty needle nose pliers and grab the skinny end of the link pin and wiggle it side to side like the dentist does when you go in for an extraction. Most of the time the link pin will come loose and fall out. (This won't work on flyer o-gauge cars, as you will have to grind the pin off the truck) There was a knockout tool made for taking the pins out years ago, but it did more damage to the link coupler and the truck end, and I don't recommend going that route. Anyway, if you gingerly wiggle the pin form side to side, being careful not to bend the end of the truck too much, you should have no problem removing the link pin. The knuckle coupler is slotted to accommodate the end of the truck remaining, which looks like an L. Slide the coupler on the L, and put the conversion pin (split rivet) through the hole, and spread the end of it. Just slide a screwdriver in between the ends of the split rivet and spread them apart a little."
