I went to Wal-Mart on the hunt for the vehicles reported below by Bill. I only found an empty rack. I did however find a '56 Ford panel truck that is just very slightly undersize (a bigger problem is the hot rod blower sticking through the hood), and a Mercury woody wagon that also appears to be just slightly undersize. These are by my old nemesis, Johnny Lightning. At least they are less undersize than the typical JL product.
I also found several of the Corgi fire trucks at $3.88. For any of the above, if you want exact S scale, you might not want these. If you can tolerate slightly small and you want these vehicles, they are quite nice. Note regarding "Suburban" vs panel truck; a Suburban has seats for rear passengers and windows all around, a panel truck has only front seats, and has side windows only in the doors. Suburban is Chevy's name for this type of vehicle. International called theirs the Travelall. Perhaps Ford and Dodge had their own names for a window van also. Ted Larson >>>>>>>>>From: Bill Lane <billlan Subject: new vehicles Hi All, I had some time to kill between dinner and the movie tonight, so my wife and I went to Wal-Mart. It proved to be a very successful trip on my usual vehicle hunt. Check this out! http://mywebpages.comcast.net/billlane/New_Cars.jpg These are by Jada Toys Road Rats series for a whopping $3.00 each. They are listed as 1/64 and are in a flat primer to represent Hot Rodding of that time. I would call them to be nominally to scale, and you can't beat the price. They are all Chevys as follows: 1960 Impala 1953 Bel Air 1957 Suburban 1953 P U 1947 Fleetline 1959 El Camino I did not buy the Impala. But I was tempted to buy the El Camino. I quit at 1957. NOW here is the good part. They are screwed together! You can disassemble them for repainting in about 2 minutes flat I plan on getting more of them if Ken Davis does not beat me to them!
