Dear all,

I am pleased to announce a new release of S3QL, version 2.8.

Please note that starting with version 2.0, S3QL requires Python 3.3 or
newer. For older systems, the S3QL 1.x branch (which only requires
Python 2.7) will continue to be supported for the time being. However,
development concentrates on S3QL 2.x while the 1.x branch only receives
selected bugfixes. When possible, upgrading to S3QL 2.x is therefore
strongly recommended.

From the changelog:

  * Fixed various problems with using a proxy server.

  * Sending SIGUSR1 to mount.s3ql now generates a stacktrace
    (debugging feature).

  * When passing --installed to the test runner, S3QL commands
are now loaded from $PATH instead of the packages bin/
    directory.

  * The runtest.py script now comes with the correct shebang
(i.e., it can now be called as "./runtests.py" instead of
    "python3 runtests.py").

  * S3QL now requires the python dugong module
    (https://bitbucket.org/nikratio/python-dugong)

  * Fixed a file system hang when all upload threads encounter
    unexpected backend problems.

Please report any bugs on the mailing list ([email protected]) or
the issue tracker (https://bitbucket.org/nikratio/s3ql/issues).

Enjoy,

   -Nikolaus
