Honestly I have a huge list of criteria https://github.com/szepeviktor/debian-server-tools/tree/master/backup#backup-criteria-list and I'm planning combine obnam <http://code.liw.fi/obnam/manual/obnam-manual.en.html> with s3ql. I would leave obnam behind but is has this excellent feature:
