Hi,

I was using s3ql 2.33 to back up from my local hard drive to an USB drive,
on my Ubuntu system.

I noticed that gigabytes of files were written to /home/username/.s3ql/

Why is this needed since both the source and destination are essentially
"local"? Could it be avoided in future versions? I'm asking because my
drive is an SSD drive and I want to prolong its life by avoiding
unnecessary writes.

Thanks
