As far as I know CentOS 5 comes with Python 2.4. Have you somehow 
upgraded to Py2.6?

If you really have 2.6 grab the RPM from Fedora 12 repo (iirc that's 
compiled for 2.6).

FWIW my CentOS 5 systems upgraded to s3cmd 1.0.0 rpm just fine.
