*Media Alert* ** ** The Friends of Cuba Society (FOCUS), SACP COSATU and ANC will stage a picket at the US Embassy on 14 October 2011. The picket is part of the global campaign calling for the freedom of the Cuban Five. The Cuban Five are five Cuban men who are imprisoned in the United States of America and serving four life sentences and 75 years collectively, after being wrongly convicted in 2001. They are Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González. The five were involved in monitoring and preventing terrorist activities by Miami based terrorist groups against Cuba. They were falsely accused of espionage conspiracy against the US government. **** ** ** A memorandum of demands will be submitted to the US Embassy.
