12 September 2014 CPS: All-out support for transport workers' protest The Communist Party of Swaziland gives its full support to the swift protest action by transport operators in Manzini, which today closed the city to taxi transport. The action has been sparked by an extortionate R3000 fine imposed on a taxi driver for apparently dropping off customers at an unscheduled stop. But the fact that transport workers have reacted so angrily and in an organised way reflects the levels of working class frustration with the Mswati dictatorship. The bloated monarch has recently splurged on sending his wives on more greed fuelled shop-til-you-drop foreign holidays, and wedding his 14th wife. Increasingly, Swaziland's impoverished and oppressed working class are being provoked by being squeezed through raised taxes and penalties to shell out more money for the state. Mswati is also increasing land evictions and confiscations from the people. Yesterday, 11 September, seven subsistence farmers were arrested by the police for protesting against the seizure of their lands in Vuvane by the regime. The regime has also evicted people from their land in Ludzeludze and Nokwane. Sales of these and other stolen lands are purely to enrich the monarch. Mswati is the direct beneficiary of the exploitation of the people. His wealth is our poverty. We call on all workers and anti-regime activists in Swaziland to support the transport workers' protest and to coordinate to ensure as widespread civil disobedience as possible. Our message to the protest is that the CPS is with you.
