*PUDEMO STATEMENT ON ATTACKS OF FOREIGN NATIONALS IN SOUTH AFRICA*
*PUDEMO STATEMENT – 17 APRIL 2015* The People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), the prime liberation movement in Swaziland, has learnt with shock the xenophobic violence that broke out in South Africa – Durban and surrounding townships – allegedly targeted on foreign nationals. We have also noted that the attacks are spreading to other parts of the country, including Johannesburg. As a liberation movement that stands for peace, democracy and social justice, we are saddened by the loss of lives and assaults of people in this manner. It is our hope that calm will be restored very soon in the affected areas. We support the South African government's courageous condemnation of these attacks. Indeed, there can be no justification for such cruelty – killing of foreigners and looting of their shops. We are also support the march by the city of Durban residents that has galvanised the people of South Africa's brave stance against xenophobia. This is a good way to confirm the brotherhood and sisterhood that has been the glue that holds the continent together. We encourage South Africa and the continent to stand up against Xenophobia and bury it in the same way we buried the system of Apartheid. We have a shared history as Africans and it does not help to begin to fight one another in this manner. South Africa does not owe Africans anything for our collective support to their liberation struggle but they owe it to themselves not to become the monster they defeated. We have confidence that the South African government and the people of South Africa as a whole will come out victorious in this battle against xenophobia. Dialogue and peaceful engagement is the only solution known to our African people, as demonstrated when the South African society spoke to itself and reconciled after decades of political oppression. *Statement issued by the Secretary General of PUDEMO* *NB.** The People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) is a Swazi political movement committed to the creation, protection and promotion of a constitutional multi-party democracy, a transparent and accountable government, an environment conducive to the economic growth and empowerment and the development of a culturally vibrant and tolerant society, based on maximum participation and respect of the will of the people. It is waging a struggle for political freedom in the small kingdom of Swaziland (Africa’s only remaining absolute monarchy). PUDEMO is a banned entity in Swaziland and its leader (President Mario Masuku) is in prison alongside other political prisoners while other leaders are in exile for pursuing these political objectives but the movement remains the leading voice of the poor and oppressed people of Swaziland and enjoys popular support from the broader society (trade union, youth movement and students, church, communities and other civil society formations).* *Contact Detail:* *Tell: +27 72 202 8440* *pudemoi...@gmail.com* <pudemoi...@gmail.com> *Facebook: pudemo* *Tweeter:@pudemo* *Lucky Lukhele- * *Tell:011 339 3621* *Fax: **0866162206* *Mobile: 072 502 4141* *Email: lucky.lukh...@gmail.com <lucky.lukh...@gmail.com> * Skype: LuckyLukhele1 Twitter: @lukhelelucky -- -- NEW!!!!
