CPS.png Message of the CPS to PUDEMO on its anniversary
6 July 2016 The Communist Party of Swaziland congratulates the People's United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) on its 33rd anniversary and commits itself to working with the movement for democracy and socialism in Swaziland. The CPS believes that it is the duty of pro-democracy activists in our country to and should always be members of PUDEMO, as it is the broad progressive umbrella movement that guides our people out of the tyranny to the Mswati regime to a democratic future. That movement must be constantly strengthened and supported. We take inspiration, in particular, from the words of PUDEMO's 1985 manifesto, which states that in a new dispensation in Swaziland "the country's wealth shall be enjoyed by all citizens and shall be shared equally," that "the land shall be given to all those who work it," that there shall be "free, compulsory, universal and equal [education] for all children," and that "human rights shall be observed and respected." These cornerstones of the broad liberation movement remain crucial to our struggle as CPS members and to the struggle of all supporters of progressive change in Swaziland. We note that the struggle in Swaziland necessitates the greatest possible unity of progressive forces. As is often the case in momentous struggles this unity is often put to the test, but we are confident that as the struggle in Swaziland intensifies we will increase the unity of our movement and together oppose opportunism and sectarianism. The CPS will always add weight and support to the campaigns and initiatives of PUDEMO in our country and work with it to create the strongest possible opposition to the ruling autocracy.
