as-salaamu alaykum, If you use KDE4, it actually lets you create seperate desktop plates/folders which is like this in a way. you can rename each one as you like, and change their colours etc. But instead of the files just being organised over a background, they're actually all seperate plasmoids, pointing to different physical folders on disk.
