Title:
Implement Arabic shaping in wine
Status in Wine:
Fix Released
Status in “wine1.3” package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
Binary package hint: wine
In the current version of wine, the arabic characters in a windows
application would appear unjoined. The reason is that wine removed ICU
support from wine, according to this upstream bug report
(http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7150):
"ICU was removed because it introduced ABI dependencies into Wine that were
unreasonable for general consumption (plus it bloated parts of wine by as much
as, if not over, 1000%). As such, any patch that is based on ICU is unlikely
to
go into the main code."
Anyways, I applied this patch to wine_1.0.1-0ubuntu6, and I don't see
any significant size increase in wine. I don't know though about the
ABI issue.
I have attached the debdiff with this bug report, I hope it would be
considered and included in Ubuntu.
