I would really like to see this happen also.  As a commercial software developer, releasing all of my source code is not an option.  There are no other XSL engines that are small, fast, and written in c/c++, so many commercial developers are faced with the daunting task of writing their own XSL engine from scratch or porting one over from Java.  The whole idea of open source is to allow developers to work together freely.  Using the GPL rather than the LPGL excludes an entire class of developers from making valuable contributions to this project.
