I don't really know much about this subject, but a good example for adding a function can be found in the thread on this list:
[Sab] PATCH: Implementation of current() function
This is a series of three patches that [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote that implements the current() function. The changes are very minimal, so hopefully they are easy to understand. The function works great also (Thanks Robin!)
