We would like to point out following events taking place within the context of the exhibition DAVE ALLEN – CANON TO THE HAMMER OF THE GODS (Secession Vienna, April 26 – June 22, 2008)
Thursday, May 29, 2008 Secession, Galerie 5.30 p.m. dialogue tour with Dave Allen and Jeanette Pacher (exhibition department Secession) 6.30 p.m. “APRIL 1898” performance Sunday, June 8, 2008 Kunstradio – Radiokunst 11.05 p.m., OE1 „Games for May“ by Dave Allen Until June 22, works of Scottish artist Dave Allen whose artistic practice is characterised by a strong interest in music, are on show at the Secession in Vienna. In connection with the exhibition, Ö1 Kunstradio presents the radio art piece „Games for May“, a re-recording of Pink Floyd’s legendary album „Live in Pompeii“ played in the Galerie space at the Secession. This additional information causes a conceptual shift resp. expansion, in terms of time as well as of the geographical location, and is consequently pursued when aired on Kunstradio in June. Also in his performance at the Secession on May 29, Dave Allen links different themes in an associative manner, thereby creating a new narrative. With the audience attending the performance, Dave Allen intends to sing and perform the canon which he has written for the Secession, and that is rhythmically based on drum beats of Cozy Powell. In the dialogue tour with Jeanette Pacher, Dave Allen will talk about his work and artistic approach. DAVE ALLEN, born in 1963 in Glasgow, lives and works in Stockholm. In the early 1990s he took a keen interest in the collective experience of pop and rock and their function in establishing identity within youth culture. More recently he has been working more and more with compositions of contemporary experimental music. In his transformations and translations into video installations, performances, drawings, sound installations, and works for radio, methods of textualization and communicative processes in general are significant.
