*Dialogführung zur Ausstellung DAS AUGE von Thomas Hirschhorn*
mit Annette Südbeck (Ausstellungsbüro Secession) und Kathrin Schweizer

Thomas Hirschhorn hat für den Hauptraum der Secession aus zahlreichen
Elementen eine Collage im Raum geschaffen. Ausgangspunkt für seine
Zusammenstellung der heterogenen Objekte, Bild- und Textmaterialien ist
seine Votstellung vom Auge: /"Das Auge" ist _ein Vorwand_ einerseits,
aber "Das Auge" ist auch _das Werkzeug_, denn das Auge ermöglicht es
_die Dinge zu benennen. Neu zu benennen._ Das will ich mit dieser
Arbeit. Ich will durch die "künstliche" Distanz eines Auges - getrennt
vom Rest des Körpers, vom Gehirn - (_"Das Auge" nur als Organ_) einen
_neuen Sinne schaffen_. ... "Das Auge" sieht nicht alles - aber es sieht
alles was _Rot _ist. "Das Auge" sieht nur die Farbe Rot. Es kann also
nur Rot aufzeigen, es kann nur Rot bebennen und es kann nur Rot 'sein'./

Thomas Hirschhorn has created a threedimensional collage for the main
exhibition hall of the Secession consisting of many different elements.
The starting point for this combination of many heterogenous objects,
images, and texts is Hirschhorns's idea for the eye: /On the ine hand
"Das Auge" ("The Eye") is a pretext, but "Das Auge" is also _the tool_,
for "Das Auge" makes it possible _to give things names_. _To give things
new names_. That is what I want to achive in this work. I want to
_create new meaning_ through the artificial distance of an eye, distinct
from the rest of the body, from the brain (_"Das Auge" just as an
organ_). ... "Das Auge does not see everything - but it sees everything
that is red. "Das Auge" only sees the color red. Thus it can only show
red, it can only name red, and it can only 'be' red./
