Jänner 2011 , 18 Uhr Depot, Breite Gasse 3, 1070 Wien Die von Black Audio Film Collective von den frühen 1980er bis Mitte der 1990er Jahre produzierten experimentellen Dokumentarfilme zählen zu den wichtigsten filmischen Arbeiten in der Auseinandersetzung mit Schwarzer Geschichte in Britannien und darüber hinaus. Vor dem Hintergrund der Arbeitskämpfe und Aufstände, auf die sie sich beziehen, bilden die Filme ein Archiv über Fragen politischer Repräsentation, Geschichte und Erinnerung. Teil der filmischen Praxis war von Anfang an eine Diskursbildung, die in die Cultural Studies Departments oder die Postcolonial Studies hineinwirkte. Was bedeutet dieses widerständige Wissen heute in Zeiten seiner Kommodifizierung in Universitäten, Museen und Kinos, während gleichzeitig etwa eine Auseinandersetzung mit Schwarzer österreichischer Geschichte marginalisiert und negiert wird? Against the backdrop of the worker struggles and the riots they draw from, the films build an archive on questions of political representation, history and memory. From the beginning, part of the filmic practice was the building of discourses, which worked its way into Cultural Studies Departments or Postcolonial Studies. What is the meaning of this resistant knowledge today in times of its commodification in universities, museums and cinemas, while a debate, for example, on Black Austrian history is simultaneously marginalized and negated?
