Die Galerie Emanuel Layr freut sich die zweite Einzelausstellung von Julien Bismuth in Wien bekannt zu geben.
Die Arbeit des französischen Künstlers Julien Bismuth (*1973, lebt in New York und Paris) bewegt sich auf der Grenze zwischen bildender Kunst und Literatur und verknüpft beide Disziplinen. Häufig steht am Anfang von Bismuths Vorgehen ein Text, gefunden oder selbst verfasst. Im Folgenden kombiniert er Wörter mit Objekten, Fotografien und Filmmaterial, integriert sie in Collagen und Installationen, oder entwickelt textbasierte Performances und Video-Arbeiten. Außerdem ist er publizistisch tätig, unter anderem im Rahmen des 2005 von ihm und dem Künstler Jean-Pascal Flavien gegründeten Verlags Devonian Press. Aktuell sind seine Arbeiten in einer Einzelausstellung im GAK in Bremen und waren des weiteren in der Tate Modern, Kunsthalle Wien, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, CRAC Alsace, Bloomberg Space London, ICA Philadelphia und der Villa Arson in Nizza zu sehen.

Galerie Emanuel Layr is pleased to announce the second solo exhibition in Vienna of Julien Bismuth
French artist Julien Bismuth (*1973, lives in New York and Paris) works at the interface of visual art and literature. Most of his oeuvre builds on texts found or penned by the artist. Bismuth's approach combines words with objects, photographs and film material, integrating them within collages, installations, and developing text-based performances and video works. Bismuth also founded an independent publishing house Devonian Press together with Jean-Pascal Flavien in 2005. He currently has a solo exhibition at the GAK in Bremen and his work has been shown in venues including the Tate Modern, Kunsthalle Wien, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, CRAC Alsace, Bloomberg Space London, ICA Philadelphia, Villa Arson Nice.
