Hello !! I can not say that I have ever used this algorithm in Sage, though I often wondered how it was written since I read somewhere that the only known approximation for the genus problem was up to a factor n^c (or that there was no approximation of this shape, anyway both are pretty scary).
Two comments. - I had never *ever* heard of "maximum genus before" - For me, the gens does not change if you allow multiedges or loops. So what is the problem with them ? O_o Clearly, if the choice is between Fast genus and Maximum genus, I'd pick 'a' immediately. But would it be hard to preserve both ? Can't we include your genus code while keeping this maximum genus thing, for whoever wrote the patch in the first place ? I'll make my second vote a 'b', knowing that the feature stays : the genus of a looped multigraph is the same if we remove loops and multiedges :-) Thank you *very* much for this code :-) Nathann -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "sage-combinat-devel" group.
