Hi Jim!

Pretty amazing :-)

Indeed; we decided to switch in June 2008, and most of MuPAD-Combinat
has been ported over.

To port over the 100k lines of code of MuPAD-Combinat, we took the
straightforward path: a complete manual rewrite. In other words, we
ported the ideas, tests, and documentation pieces, rather than the
code itself. But your mileage may vary! Here are the rationale for our
choosing this option:
- I don't know of an automatic converter MuPAD -> Python
- The code needed anyway a complete redesign to benefit from:
- What we had learned from good and by experience while writing it in MuPAD
- Some philosophy/infrastructure differences between MuPAD and Sage
- Features that were already available and did not need porting
- We had some manpower (thanks in particular to Mike Hansen!)
- It's possible to call MuPAD from Sage. This bought us the option to
port things progressively, since we could start right away doing
real work with Sage, delegating to MuPAD what was not yet ported over.
Maybe a good starting point would be for you to post here a quick
summary of the features in your library: both main features and
underlying computation kernel/dependencies for those main
features. Maybe some of them are already in Sage. Maybe someone here
will be interested by some/all of them and willing to share the work
with you.

Indeed!
Good luck with your porting! We have been through this and appreciate
both how important and overwhelming it can be :-)
Cheers,
Nicolas
