I rewrote the build script in scons to eliminate the ugliness coming from
auto-tools. It appeared to work fine on my linux system, but craig citro had
trouble on the mac. Not having a mac, I'm at a loss, but I think craig was
making progress on finding the correct linker options.
I guess all that libtool/automake magic might be worth more for cross platform
compatibility than I gave it credit for :). But that sure doesn't make it
pretty to the eyes.
