I keep thinking of features that would be nice for engineers/ scientists and I wanted to write them down.
1. symbolic spreadsheets via open office 2. units tracking (actually dimensions tracking - some fundamental SI units are not dimensions, eg. moles) 3. propagation of uncertainty (including accounting for correlation) 4. (An idea from a feature in Mathematica v6, only better:) Ask standards organizations to publish SAGE packages that make up to date physics and engineering data available in SAGE: NIST fundamental physical constants (http://physics.nist.gov/cuu/ Constants/) IUPAC atomic weights (http://www.iupac.org/publications/pac/2006/pdf/ 7811x2051.pdf) IAPWS steam properties (http://www.iapws.org/relguide/IF97.pdf) Two and three could interact: for instance Boltzmann's constant and the universal gas constant differ by a factor Avogadro's constant, and their correlation coefficient isn't 1 (or zero): http://physics.nist.gov/cgi-bin/cuu/CCValue?r|ShowSecond=molar+gas+constant&First=k meh, sorry for doing a core dump on the mailing list... --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To post to this group, send email to [email protected] To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For more options, visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/sage-devel URLs: http://sage.scipy.org/sage/ and http://modular.math.washington.edu/sage/ -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
