Thanks! I just finished reading the magma docs. Good news -- I was wrong -- it's going to be a lot of work but it's completely *reasonable* to make SAGE functionality as powerful as MAGMA. Making it as fast is another matter... but that's for Bill Hart, etc., in the long run. But functionality wise it's quite possible given what is in PARI. It's just going to be a lot of work -- basically adding lots of functions and structures for orders, ideals, unit groups, etc. Also, I think the best way is to *not* radically alter what is there now, except to make arithmetic much faster (via flint), and to add better support for orders.
