So, the idea of making a programming GUI in a web browser was cooked up back in late 2005 / early 2006 by William and me when I was working for him at UCSD (on the then infant SAGE project ;). I knew I was interested in the idea of making a programming environment in a web browser since early 2004 when I had a student project using webMathematica (were, incidentally, I was doing some Java 3D graphics coding, see: http://www.vis.uni-stuttgart.de/~kraus/LiveGraphics3D/ ) Today the Sage notebook exists, and is used by lots of people, it is really an awesome idea to be able to program from any computer without having to install anything! With Knoboo, myself and Dorian Raymer have been working hard to make a 'generalized' version of the Sage notebook, one that is cleanly organized, as loosely couple as possible and full feature with functionality like you see in apps like Google Docs. We have come far, but there is more work to be done before it is ready to be fully used ... we have a milestone coming up soon, which includes some pretty impressive functionality that is almost complete, see: http://trac.knoboo.com/roadmap I'd be more that happy to discuss more about any details with respect to the Sage notebook, Knoboo, or any specific code and functionality (AJAX / twisted / graphics, etc).
