You would have to run "chkconfig" to make sure that the service
actually gets added to the /etc/rc.[0.6] directories, which control
which services get started at what run level. You'd also have to make
sure that the service is configured to run at the appropriate runlevel
(in the script above it's levels 3,4,5) and that your system actually
boots into that runlevel.

Then again, all of this might well work differently in Ubuntu/Debian.

[again, this info might not be relevant for you, but might be handy
for someone who "wants to run the sage notebook as a service on redhat
or fedora systems"]
