On BIG BIG problem I feel with Mathematica is Wolfram try to control the community far too much. Not even Wolfram Research employees can post messages to Mathgroup (comp.soft-sys.math.mathematica) without them first being approved by the moderator. Ask a question on comp.soft-sys.math.mathematica and it is most unlikely to be answered within 24 hours. If you are lucky, someone from WRI will send you a private email. Comparisons with other software are not allowed on comp.soft- sys.math.mathematica either, and discussions of cost are also outlawed. This makes it very difficult to get objective help. > I also know that this holds in some cases for mathematica, where you > restrict yourself to mma by writing mma code that you want to use. I've found the odd gems in the Wolfram Library, such as PolarListPlot by Ted Ersek. It actually looks like it was written by someone who actually wanted to create a polar graph. It's infinitely better than the http://reference.wolfram.com/mathematica/ref/ListPolarPlot.html which is new in Mathmatica 6, but has not a tenth of the capabilities as the package written in 2001. It's clear there are advantages when someone writes a function because they need it, rather than their manager has told them to write one. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To post to this group, send email to [email protected] To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For more options, visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/sage-devel URLs: http://www.sagemath.org -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
