Sure. The long discussion about this on sage-devel in November did not
end up in a black hole. This is work in progress in Sage-Combinat. I
still hope to be able to get the category infrastructure into Sage 3.5.
Of course, making all of Sage systematically use this infrastructure
will take more time.
