Now I am puzzled.

The MeatAxe sources have a COPYING file that states:

So, according to 2.a), I *must* have a diff file or something like
that. Or not?

But now I wonder: You said that in GPL usually it is nice but not
required to have a diff when you change the source files. But this
license says something else. Does it mean that the licence under which
MeatAxe is published is not fully GPL compatible?

Or does section 2.a) just mean that no diff is required, but in any
modified file I have to indicate in the copyright notices that I
changed something? And am I copyright holder for these changes?
Probably yes, but of course *only* for the changed bits.

So, how should the copyright statement look when I took some code
(with its own copyright statement) and changed a couple of functions?

Sorry, but I was terrified by the recent long thread about GPL
licensing.
