Hi,

I know there are some people interested in polymake so I thought I'd
ask here: can anyone even compile polymake-2.9.6? After sorting out a
few dependency issues, "make configure" fails with this on Ubuntu
9.04:

 make[1]: Entering directory
`/home/carlo/Desktop/polymake-2.9.6/.bootstrap/Term-ReadLine-Gnu-1.16'
chmod: missing operand after `755'
Try `chmod --help' for more information.
make[1]: *** [/.exists] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/home/carlo/Desktop/polymake-2.9.6/.bootstrap/Term-ReadLine-Gnu-1.16'
make: *** [configure] Error 1

Pretty cryptic. I also found that I had to rm-fr and re-extract the
polymake sources each time "make configure" failed and then had to be
restarted (I guess partially written files led it astray).
