From the point of view of packaging sage for a source based distribution which doesn't have to distribute binaries, dealing with the individual packages is easier than you may think.
Only trouble is as far as I can see we will have to create a cbc ebuild (package if you prefer) for Gentoo, we can use the already available glpk ebuild.
