I'm not even sure about this argument, though.  Being able to upgrade
quickly, regardless of version number, in order to get new
functionality (such as .rref() ) is also very valuable in the
educational environment, at least at institutions that have no choice
but Sage for a comprehensive system.

But also from the developer perspective, I think that the "endless
rebasing" argument is very important, given that it is a volunteer
project, but one with a fairly large number of developers (I assume?)
for one that doesn't always have well-defined "modules" that will be
touched by a few developers each.  And one with developers whose day
job is usually not directly related to programming!
