I think I misunderstood you. So allow me to apologize. What I'm trying
to say is that one should avoid trying to use a system-wide Sage
installation to run its own doctests. (Also avoid (re)building the
Sage standard documentation in a system-wide Sage installation.) Could
you please try running doctests using the system-wide Sage
installation on the machine sage.math, and report how it goes? At the
moment, it looks like I can do what you described above. However,
looking at the file permissions in the system-wide installation of
Sage 4.3.3 on the machine sage.math, I see that I have read and write
privileges for some files and directories. (I shouldn't be having such
privileges on sage.math for the system-wide Sage installation.)
