Thank you! As I said above, I am no friend of googling translations, but I just found that people indeed seem to use "Abstieg": Searching for |"elliptische Kurven" Abstieg|, google returns 371 hits. Searching for |"elliptische Kurven" Deszent| results in no direct hits, referring to two texts that are half English half German, containing "descent" in the English part. Hum. I would feel more comfortable if a human could confirm google's suggestion.
