Hi folks,

Nathann Cohen recently [1] brought up the topic of using the ISGCI
graph database [2] in Sage. During several weeks of email
communication, we have reached agreement with upstream developers of
ISGCI to have the database licensed under the CC terms below. Under
such terms, Nathann and I would like to know if the database could be
distributed as part of Sage. I know that several databases are
distributed with Sage, but I'm not sure of the licensing terms
governing those databases. A database is different from source code,
so it needs another type of license. This might be a non-issue because
the Sage standard documentation is licensed under a slightly different
CC license. I would like to request comments to see whether ISGCI
could be distributed as part of Sage with the licensing terms below.

There's no issue shipping CC-licensed documentation with Sage, we already do. As for databases, note that data itself can't be copyrighted--only a particular presentation of data, so it may be a non-issue from that standpoint as well (though worth putting the CC license statement in there, to make it clear no matter the line is drawn).

Hi all,

first of all my apologies for taking so long in answering. The problem
I'm having with open source licenses, is that the database isn't code
but data. So I looked around for "open data" and found the creative
commons licenses. This led me to the following license:

The ISGCI database is licensed under the Creative Commons
Attribution-Share
Alike 3.0 Unported License. To view a copy of this license, visit
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ or send a letter to
Creative
Commons, 171 Second Street, Suite 300, San Francisco, California, 94105,
USA.
Attributions should refer to ISGCI (Information System on Graph Classes
and
their Inclusions) by H.N. de Ridder et al. and contain the active URL,
currently http://wwwteo.informatik.uni-rostock.de/isgci

Will this one work for you?

Best regards,
 Ernst
