When I build ATLAS on my OpenSolaris box with SAGE64=yes, it takes about 5 minutes to build as a 64-bit library. I can live with that.

Building ATLAS as a 32-bit binary (i.e. SAGE64 is not set), on the same hardware, seems to be taking forever. ATLAS has been building an hour, and its still not completed!

Has anyone else noticed that the build time of ATLAS can change like this? I guess it would be mainly OS X users who might be setting SAGE64.

The processor is an Intel W3580 Xeon (3.33 GHz, quad core, hyperthreaded = 8 threads).

As a 64-bit build, I can build the whole of Sage in less than half the time its taking to build a 32-bit ATLAS!
