That project looks pretty much dead. I think it would be better to have a Cython wrapper to some generic finite element / finite volume framework thats written in C/C++ and (optionally) supports clusters/HPC. For example, DUNE http://www.dune-project.org looks promising. Its also mentioned on http://wiki.sagemath.org/grants/09/compmath/proposal/projects. Now that we have Cython C++ it would be possible to actually do it. If we go that route, we should invite a DUNE developer as a co-mentor.
